Notice of Voters List / Voting as a Non-Resident Voter / and Personal Security Protection

PUBLIC NOTICE

OF VOTERS LIST / VOTING AS A NON-RESIDENT VOTER/ and

PERSONAL SECURITY PROTECTION

 

RURAL MUNICIPALITY of GIMLI

 

In accordance with Section 36 of The Municipal Councils and School Boards Election Act (MCSBEA), Notice is hereby given that a copy of the VOTERS LIST may be revised at:

 

The Municipal Office at 62 2nd Ave. in the R.M. of Gimli between May 1, 2018 and September 18, 2018 during regular business hours.

 

At this time an Election Official will be available to update the voters list by:

(a)    adding the names of voters who are entitled to have their names on the list;

(b)    deleting the names of persons who are not entitled to have their names on the list; and

(c)    making such other correction of errors to the list as required.

 

VOTER ELIGIBILITY: Subsection 21(1)

A person is eligible to have his or her name added to the Voters List if he or she is:

1)     a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age on election day; and a resident of the local authority for at least six months prior to election day, OR a registered owner of land in the municipality for at least six months prior to election day. Subsection 22(1)

 

 VOTING AS A NON-RESIDENT VOTER: Subsection 22(2)

For municipal elections only, non-resident land-owners are eligible to vote in an election. In order to be eligible, the person must be:

·          A Canadian citizen;

·          At least 18 years of age on Election Day;

·          A registered owner of land in the municipality for at least six months on Election Day.

 

A maximum of two non-resident property owners, per property, are permitted to vote in a municipal election. Subsection 22 (2). In order to vote, each of these voters must obtain written consent from a majority of the registered land-owners, and file this with the Senior Election Official prior to September 18, 2018. Consent forms can be obtained from the RM of Gimli Municipal Office, and must be presented at the time of voting if they have not been filed by September 18, 2018.

 

When voting as a non-resident owner, and you have not filed the consent form prior to September 18, 2018, you must bring the consent form as well as proof of ownership to the voting official during voting hours . Ensure you bring proof of ownership with you when voting.

 

APPLICATION FOR PERSONAL SECURITY PROTECTION: Subsection 34 (3)

 

A voter may apply in writing to the S.E.O. (at the address / fax number below) no later than Sept. 11, 2018  to have his/her name and other personal information omitted or obscured from the voters list in order to protect the voter’s personal security.    The application may be submitted in person, by mail or fax and must include your name, address and include proof of identity.

 

All changes to the voters list must be completed on or before September 18, 2018.
