What Could Our Community Do With $5 Million?

The Smart Cities Challenge is asking Canadian communities to come up with a big idea and submit an application to win up to $5 million. The Challenge encourages communities to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data and connected technology.

There are so many passionate, knowledgeable, and innovative individuals in our community. The RM wants to hear from residents to harness that creative energy to come up with resident-driven initiatives to help make The RM of Gimli even better.

Residents are asked to think of the biggest opportunities they see in Gimli and tell us their ambitious idea that uses those opportunities to make the greatest impact based on eight focus areas for submissions developed with community stakeholders.

The RM has already heard some great ideas from community stakeholders, which have helped in developing eight (8) categories to build on, including:

  • Big Idea
  • Safety & Security
  • Vibrant Communities
  • Public & Active Transportation
  • Environment
  • Accessibility & Quality of Life
  • Information-driven
  • Transparency & Engagement

Engagement:

  • Attend a Smart City panel event on February 25, 2018 - COMPLETE
  • Submit an idea from February 2 to March 22, 2018
  • Select your favourite submissions from February 2 to March 22, 2018
  • Discuss with others online using #SmartGimli

Once the RM has received and reviewed ideas and engaged with residents and stakeholders, it will submit its Smart Cities Challenge proposal in April 2018.
